Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is the autonomous body that conducts various kind of examinations for the recruitment process of the candidate for various kind of posts in Ministries and Departments of Indian Government. Ministry of Home Affairs, Central Government Departments, State Government Departments, etc. are some of the departments of Government that recruits on the basis of the Recruitment process conducted by SSC.
Staff Selection Commission is an attached association to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). It takes control of the training and recruitment of the officers and various personnel for the posts of Indian Government. The commission is head by 4 member team out of which one is the Chairman of the Commission, two other members and a Secretary – cum – controller of the examination. SSC – Combined Graduate Level Examination
Staff Selection Commission- Combined Graduate Level Exam or better known as SSC CGL examination is the test and selection procedure that recruits for the maximum number of posts in the different ministries of Indian Government and various other departments of Government of India. SSC CGL is a multi-level examination for the recruitment into following departments and posts:
- Section Officers
- Central Vigilance Commission
- Railway Ministry
- External Affairs
- Audit Officers
- Income tax Inspectors
- SI in CBI, NIA, Narcotics etc.

SSC CGL is a 4 Tier examination. Where candidates are tested on the basis of the Preliminary knowledge about General Awareness, Aptitude etc. Then Mains examination based on the same attributes. SSC – Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam
In other terms, SSC CHSL examination is conducted for the posts of Low Division Clerk, Joint Scientific Assistant, Data Entry Operator Postal Assistant etc. SSC CHSL Examination is also a multi-level selection process where the candidates appear for 2 Tier examination and then a Skill test is conducted for the candidates being appointed into the specific posts. For example: For the post of DEO the candidate has to appear for the Typing Test to check their typing speed.
SSC – Junior Engineer
Staff Selection Commission conducts the examination for Junior Engineer for the candidates who aspire for the posts of JE in the departments of Government of India in Civil and Electrical Fields. The SSC JE examination is also a 2 tier examination selection process. The candidates appear in the examinations and meritorious candidates are selected for the posts.
SSC – Multi Tasking Staff (Non-Technical)
Staff Selection Commission conducts the examination for Multi Tasking Staff (non-technical) posts. SSC MTS is also a multi-level selection procedure. The candidates appear for the Paper 1 and Paper 2 Examination. Paper 1 is a selection examination and Paper 2 is a qualifying examination. SSC – GD Constable
General duty Constable Recruitment in organizations like BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, Rifleman etc is being conducted by the Staff Selection Commission. The candidates have applied for about 54,953 vacancies. SSC GD Constable Examination is also a multi-level examination selection procedure.
